 Rammed earth

Coevorden

Rammed earth in the main entrance of Coevorden Town Hall, Netherlands. The city administration had investigated the topic of rammed earth and realised that such a thick wall has a great capacity to absorb a lot of humidity and, if necessary, release it again by itself. For the most part, the giant wall brings a huge piece of nature into the building.

The town hall in Coevorden, designed by the architectural firm Rau and Partners, is a real treat thanks to the installation of the rammed earth wall. With thanks to Charles Thuijls and his colleagues. Difficult project, the clay was delivered too wet and had to be mixed with dry clay on site.
